Those of you that are interested in offense and have enjoyed some
of bowl season’s shootouts will be better off finding something else to
do on Monday morning when Iowa and Florida face off in the Outback
Bowl. If you enjoy a slower pace, good defense and punts, then this game
should be right up your alley.
This game is a matchup of the
78th and 109th best scoring offenses in the nation and the two teams
tied for ninth in scoring defense at 17.9 points per game allowed. On
paper, this game should be dictated by the defenses and which offense
and special teams can do the best job of winning the battle of field
position to give themselves the best opportunities to put up points in
any form.

No. 20 Florida and No. 21 Iowa square off in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 2 in Tampa, Florida.

The Gators get a geographical boost in this game and
enter with a chance to avenge a loss in the SEC title game. A playmaking
Florida defense will aim to corral Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard and a
generally run-heavy attack. The matchup could turn into a
defensive-minded contest given the way both teams have trended of late.

Details on how to watch the game are below.
Iowa: The Hawkeyes closed the season very nicely
with a three-game win streak that included a shocking upset of Michigan
(14-13) and a white-washing of Nebraska (40-10). Those wins came after
back-to-back losses to Wisconsin and Penn State where the offense really
struggled.Florida: The Gators have injury issues aplenty and the
offense has struggled all season, even when healthy, but this is a team
that still has some tremendous talent, especially in the secondary. Teez
Tabor and Quincy Wilson are as good as it gets as a corner tandem in college football, and their presence alone makes the Gators one of the nation’s best pass defenses.

No. 17 Florida and unranked Iowa enter Monday’s game (10
a.m., ABC) at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., with two of the top
defenses in the country and two of the lowest-ranked offenses. That’s
why this SEC-Big Ten matchup likely will be a slugfest.

The Gators (8-4) finished the regular season ranked No. 6 in
total defense in FBS, giving up 298.6 yards per game. Florida is
stocked with NFL-caliber talent — including cornerbacks Teez Tabor and
Quincy Wilson and outside linebacker Jarrad Davis — on that side of
the ball.

Western Michigan will
be looking to end its season 14-0 when it takes on Wisconsin (10-3) in
Monday’s Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. However,
the Badgers would be playing in the Rose Bowl if they didn’t lose to
Penn State in the Big Ten Championship, so they’re not going to be an
easy task for the Broncos.
